Watch this exquisite new music video for The Acorn‘s song Flood Pt. 1 (download it as well as the wonderful song Crooked Legs).
It’s an album, not just a collection of songs. The lead singer interviewed his mom for nine months about her traumatic, fascinating life that took her from Honduras to Montréal. Then he researched Central American rhythms and instrumentation and used that leverage to retell her life in song, remaining true to the stylized affectations and fancies of memory. The backstory is touching; the results are beautifully compelling.
They’re still touring a bit here and there, enjoying their post-SXSW buzz. Good for them.
